Singapore StarCraft II Gets Boost With US$10,000 Tournament

Competitive StarCraft  is seeing a revival in Singapore with the StarCraft II World Championship Series (WCS).

Together with ESL, Blizzard Entertainment will be hosting the tournament on July 28 and 29 at Funan Digitalife Mall. The US$10,000 prize pool is the largest prize pool seen in Singapore since the launch of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty back in 2010.

And such a lure must be impossible to resist. We’ve heard that even Bryan ‘nirvAnA’ Choo will be coming out of retirement to try his luck at the prize.

However, we think Marcus ‘Revenant’ Tan might have a good chance at winning too, especially since he has just gotten home from a month-long training stint at the Fnatic team house in Korea.

Said Revenant of his chances at WCS: “I expect to win the whole thing with no maps dropped. Any less will be a letdown.”

The Singaporean winner of the StarCraft II World Championship Series will get, on top of his or her cash prize of US$4,000, a sponsored trip to the StarCraft II Asian Continental Finals in China later in the year. Another Southeast Asian representative will be chosen from four finalists from Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand, who will also be flown down to take part on July 29.
